My name is Jasmine Brooks, I am 28 and am a multi-disciplinary artist originally from Los Angeles, California with roots in East Texas. Since 2012, Houston has been my home city. My journey as an artist began in 2018, fueled by a desire for self-expression and experimentation with color, objects and the human form, through self-taught techniques. My work consists of subjects of hard-edge geometric and free form shapes, unordinary/unique depictions of people in interior or imaginative scenery and obscure collages by using acrylic paint, fabric, paper and digital media. Using bold colors to create dynamic compositions.Throughout life I’ve embraced the power of not fitting into one identity and being a layered, odd, multi-faceted individual. Appreciating the simple and complex aspects of oneself. I seek to convey themes of acceptance of identity and self-image, freedom through personal expression and emotions, diversity and beauty within uniqueness, odd and offbeat things and appreciation of the aesthetics of material subjects and women. These themes are reflected in my art as I present the embodiment of my individuality, life journey and the appreciation of femininity, style and everyday things I find intriguing about myself and humanity.My mission is to continuously create multiple series of work in my unique style while also incorporating my inspiration of the vintage and retro era and abstract concepts. What is also important to me is to positively inspire and influence other creatives to prioritize and exercise their passions and gifts.
